You know what happens when you stand in a line for half an hour and the girl next to you out of the blue says that she knew you in high school, and you don’t realize who she is immediately because in high school she had pink hair and in hindsight you think that she is so uber-cool for living outside of the box back then and on top of that high school was like 15 light years ago?

You end up with a french bulldog named Grizzly.

happenstance: an unexpected random event.
If it wasn’t for happenstance, there wouldn’t be a dog on my floor making raspberry noises in his sleep.

Shepard Fairey in San Diego

Street artist Shepard Fairey was in San Diego creating murals for the “Viva La Revolucion” showing at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. We couldn’t miss seeing the artist in action. So we hightailed it to South Park to see him work.

While we were in New York City for NSS, we checked out some of our favorite street artists’ work.

This piece by Shepard Fairey was right outside the Ace Hotel (where we happened to be staying.)

We saw his art show May Day at the Deitch Projects on Wooster.

Then, by accident, came across the Mr. Brainwash Icons Remix that day.

Guess who also hit the New York City street nights that week? Banksy. Too bad some of the pieces were defaced by the time we got there.

When this duo from Mai Tai Photography asked us to print some letterpress printed notecards for them, we jumped at the chance. Not only are they talented photographers, they are two of the coolest people you could ever work with.

Printing During a SoCal Winter

There’s nothing that puts in me in a good mood to print like a great track of songs. In San Diego, we woke up to a 73 degree winter that felt like summer. So we had to load up some of our favorite Reggae, Ska and dub So-Cal/Hawaiian bands into the Ipod and just planned a day of printing until the sun went down.
